Most people like to believe that we’re living in an objective world influenced by causality; where there is a singular reality waiting to be lived.

They also like to argue that there’re objective facts about our realities that are unchangeable.

For example, the country you were born in, the parents that birthed you, tornados that hit and wreck lives, or a spouse that decides to leave you high and dry.

And they’re right, these facts are unchangeable.

However, you need to understand that nothing is determined by these experiences.

To quote the renowned philosopher and psychotherapist, Alfred Adler: “It is very obvious that we are not influenced by ‘facts’ but by our interpretation of the facts.”

You determine your own life experiences according to the meaning you attach to them.

Yes, it’s true, you cannot alter objective facts -but, subjective interpretations can be altered as much as you like.

And subjective interpretations all begin from your mind; by what you’re conscious of.

The dictionary defines consciousness as a person’s awareness or perception of something.

If you would like to learn how you can use your consciousness to create the reality you want, keep reading.

In this blog, I discuss how your consciousness or awareness creates the world in which you live from a spiritual and scientific viewpoint.

Side note: I use the words consciousness and awareness interchangeably.

Let’s jump in.

How your consciousness creates your reality: The spiritual viewpoint

Have you ever heard of the universal law of mentalism?

This law states that everything begins with the mind.

THE ALL IS THE MIND; The universe is mental –The Kybalion.

Before anything is manifested in your reality, it has to first be birthed in your consciousness or should I say in your awareness.

You can never attract something you are not conscious of.

This might come as a surprise, but, allow me to make a bold statement: your consciousness is God!

Since your consciousness is the God that births all your desires into reality, the consciousness of a desired state will always precede its manifestation.

You have to realize that the power to create the life you desire is within you and not outside of you.

This is what Jesus meant when he said: if any man comes saying: Look here, or look there believe them not, for the kingdom of God is within you; heaven is within you.

But, you need to accept this truth first before you can ever exercise your power.

In his book: At your command, Neville Goddard explained this concept so well in the following way:

Praying is recognizing yourself to be that which you now desire rather than begging for it.

For example, to be conscious of being poor, and to pray to a God for riches is to be rewarded with that which you are conscious of being; which is poverty.

Do you now see why millions of prayers are not answered? People are begging for things that they haven’t risen in consciousness to.

Therefore, for your prayers to be successful, you must claim what you desire, and not beg for it.

And by claiming, I mean that you have to raise in consciousness to that which you desire.

Have you heard of the universal law of correspondence? It states: As within, so without.

This means everything starts from your inner state of being. What you believe yourself to be; your self-concept.

This is what’s meant by the bible verse: when you pray, go within a secret and shut the door and that which your father sees in secret, with that, will he reward you openly.

This leads me to another important note about consciousness.

We’ve already established the fact that your consciousness is God, right?

Well, that means you have the power to create whatever it is that you are conscious of regardless of whether it’s good or bad.

This means that whatever you are conscious of -good or bad- will always be manifested because your consciousness draws it into your reality.

In their book: Ask and it is given, Esther and Jerry Hicks gave an example that beautifully illustrated this fact.

To paraphrase: You can never attract the things of radio 101 when you are tuned into radio 202, no matter how hard you try, unless you raise from the frequency of 101 to 202, you’ll never listen to what is being broadcasted on Radio 202.

You’ll have to shift your frequency by raising in consciousness to that which you desire.

So, this clearly shows that it’s your awareness of something that draws it to your reality.

The Bible says: In the awareness of being, all things are possible.

If you’re dissatisfied with your current expression of life, you need to take your attention away from that which seems so real to you and rise in consciousness to that which you desire.

For example, if you want riches, turn from your picture of poverty by denying the very evidence of your senses and assume the nature of being wealthy.

You cannot serve two masters, therefore, to take your attention from one state of consciousness and place it on another, is to die to one, and live to the other.

That’s what is meant by -you need to be born again.

It is stated in the Bible: If I be lifted up, I shall draw all men to me.

In other words, If I be lifted up in consciousness, to the naturalness of the thing desired, I will draw the manifestation of that desire onto me.

This is what Jesus meant when he stated: No man comes to me unless the father within me draws him. For I and my father are one.

Therefore, consciousness Is the father that is drawing the manifestations of life onto you.

You are at this very moment drawing into your reality that which you are now conscious of being.

So, ask yourself: If my consciousness is God and it’s always attracting that which I’m aware/conscious of into my reality, what am I conscious of right now?

Or to better put it: what am I drawing into my reality at the moment?

With all this being said, do not question how these things appear, for no man knows.

Trust that after you’ve decreed a thing -become conscious of it- it shall come to pass. This is what it means to have faith.

The Bible says: Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added onto you.

In other words: raise in consciousness to the thing you are seeking and then it will be drawn to you.

Here’s a statement that can put all these things in perspective for you: The signs always follow, they never precede.

What I mean is that, before you become rich, successful, smart, or…fill in your current desire…, you first have to birth the desire into your awareness; your consciousness -and then, the signs will follow.

You first have to become the thing consciously, before it is compelled to appear; as within, so without.

Remember: Things have no reality other than in consciousness.

Now, for those who might think this is just a bunch of woo-woo, let’s explore this from a scientific viewpoint.

How your consciousness creates your reality: The scientific viewpoint

Did you know that your brain does this cool thing called dual processing?

This is when it simultaneously processes information on separate conscious and non-conscious tracks.

For example, you could be walking by a restaurant and notice your spouse talking to a familiar woman that looks like his ex-girlfriend from high school.

Your conscious deliberate mind will look at your spouse and his conversational partner, and what’s going on, while your implicit automatic mind will be simultaneously sub-processing like a computer.

Shirt color: white; sitting posture: upright and leaning towards the lady; association: I hated her in high school; implicit bias: relationships with exes are troublesome.

All of which might weigh upon your behavior after seeing this exchange.

By some estimates, all your senses are scoping up nearly eleven million bits of information every second, and yet you consciously register only about forty at a time.

So how do you keep focused and filter out all the chatter to get stuff done?

Well, you do this with selective attention.

Selective attention is how you focus your awareness on a particular stimulus or group of stimuli while effectively tuning out the rest.

Your consciousness is like a spotlight on a busy stage.

There could be a lot of other things going on around you that your automatic sub-processor brain is covertly registering, but for those moments when you shine your spotlight of consciousness, the other stimuli will fade away.

And what you’re concentrating on will expand to the foreground of your attention.

For example, let’s say you’re consciously watching a tv show that has completely entranced you.

At this moment you probably don’t even notice the feel of the blanket that’s covering you.

But, as soon as I mention it, your attention, awareness, or consciousness however you want to term it, shifts from the TV screen to the feeling of the blanket on your skin.

This happens because as soon as I mention it, the spotlight of your attention turns to it.

So, what does this mean in terms of creating your reality?

Well, here’s how selective attention or should I say selective consciousness creates your reality.

When you select certain thoughts about a particular situation, person, or experience, and you think them over and over, you begin to assign truth to them.

This is how beliefs are formed.

Beliefs create a cognitive lens through which you view and interpret the world in which you live.

This lens serves as a selective filter through which you shift the environment to seek out evidence that matches up with your beliefs.

For example, let’s say you create a belief like “I am not attractive enough” after your partner breaks up with you.

No matter how many people compliment you on your looks saying you’re beautiful -if just one person thinks otherwise, you will fixate on this, ignoring all the rest that complimented your looks.

Because your mind has been trained to look for evidence that matches your beliefs.

So, you’ll have thoughts like of course, I’m not beautiful, no wonder my ex dumped me. And this becomes a vicious thought cycle that reinforces your already existing beliefs.

The brain’s selective filtering system works in an activation or inhibition mode.

This means that when it is primed by a certain belief, it shuts down competing neural networks so you have a hard time seeing evidence to the contrary of your beliefs.

That’s why if you have a negative view of the world, you continue to see things in it that prove your already existing beliefs: that the world is a perilous place.

This is also why you are convinced that your view of the world is the “truth”.

So, do you now see that whatever you experience in your world is majorly based on what you are conscious of?

Notice how I’ve said “your world”?

This is because since we all have different things we are conscious of, this means that we also have different views of the world, and we’re each creating our subjective worlds.

Conclusion

Understand that your thoughts are the consciousness you emit that’s creating the reality of everything you’re experiencing.

Your thoughts draw out real and solid things from the multiple possibilities involved in your entire existence.

So why not concentrate your consciousness on that which is good for you?

Ask yourself these questions: What am I currently conscious of? What am I feeding my awareness? What am I paying attention to?

The answers to these questions will point you to the belief systems that you’re creating; which ultimately create your reality.
