The programs in your subconscious mind ran 95% of your life. At the ages of 1 to 7, the subconscious mind is programmed. As the saying goes, “Give me the child before they turn 7, and I will show you the man they will become”.

At a certain point in our lives, we find ourselves struggling in some aspects. Whether it be in our finances, health, or in relationships. At this point, we need to do the work of reprograming our subconscious minds to change whatever negative programs were downloaded into them as children. Programs that do not support our direction in creating a wonderful holistic life for ourselves.

In this article, I talk about how our minds get programmed as children and two fundamental ways in which we can reprogram our minds to set new uplifting programs.

How the subconscious minds get programmed

According to Dr. Bruce Lipton, our minds are programmed between the ages of 1 to 7 years old. At these stages as children, we observe what our parents, siblings, and the members of our society are doing. We then learn the rules of how to live life by observing them.

A child’s subconscious mind is programmed by observation. So, if for example, a parent tells a child “No you don’t deserve this, go away.” This is recorded in the child’s mind as ” you don’t deserve”. At this stage, the child’s mind is not operating at a conscious level. Therefore the child will not understand where the parent is coming from with that statement.

So suddenly you are 30, 40, 50 years old and you have programming of “I don’t deserve”. When you try to do something great for yourself, you end up not going through with it. This is because you self-sabotage. By adjusting your actions to match the program of “I don’t deserve” that is in your subconscious mind.

Two fundamental ways to reprogram the subconscious mind

Dr. Bruce Lipton describes two fundamental ways in which we can reprogram our subconscious mind. These two ways will help us download new uplifting programs into our subconscious mind. Programs that will support us in the direction that we are trying to go in. Whether it be; to improve our finances, our relationships with loved ones or our health and they are as follows.

1.       Through repetition and practice.

The only way you can create a new habit is through repetition. So, if you have been struggling with depression, say to yourself “I am a happy person”. Over and over and over again. Before you know it, this statement will be recorded in your subconscious mind. You won’t even have to keep on saying that you are a happy person. Your subconscious mind will manifest the programming recorded in it and you will find yourself acting like a happy person.

2.       Through hypnosis.

Our brains were under a state of hypnosis in the first 7 years of our lives. That is how our subconscious minds got programmed. So, we shall reprogram them the same way they initially got programmed. Through hypnosis.

In this method, you have to be in a Theta state (The imaginative state). When your conscious mind is quieted down and it’s in a drowsy state. Once in this state, play a program of affirmations. Affirmations like; I am rich, I am loved, I am beautiful, good things come easily to me. If you are struggling with self-deprecating thoughts like; I am not capable of achieving great things, I am worthless (okay that may be a little bit extreme but you get my point), play affirmation programs that uplift you and affirm your capabilities of achieving great things. Affirmations that give you a sense of self-worth.

Conclusion

I too have some programs within my subconscious mind that don’t support progress in certain areas of my life. Just like the majority of people. So in a bid to reprogram my subconscious mind, here’s what I have challenged myself to do moving forward.

  •  Journal every day and write down the things that happened in my day that I am grateful for. This will ensure I focus my mind on thinking of the positive aspects of my day rather than the negative.
  • Meditate every day just before going to bed. While in this meditative state, I will picture the life I envision for myself. This will enable me to channel my energy into the future rather than the past. I tend to overly focus on the past so this will be helpful.

Please let me know in the comments below if you will try out the above two methods to reprogram your subconscious mind.
