We all reach a certain point in our lives when it dawns on us and we think, “Damn! I’m grown.”
As you sit in that realization you know that no one is coming to save you, wake you up to go to work, force you to work on your goals, or convince you to take that course you have been contemplating.
It’s all up to you now. You must be consistent and show up every day to work on your goals.
While this might seem like a daunting task, studies have shown that people who are consistent in their actions are generally happier than those that are not.
In this blog post, I will discuss in detail the below listed 5 reasons why consistency is the best gift you can give yourself.
- Consistency will lay the foundation for your ultimate success.
- Consistency will help you develop new habits.
- Consistency will help you build momentum.
- Consistency will help you become disciplined.
- Consistency will help you build self-confidence.
1. Consistency will lay the foundation for your ultimate success
In the law of attraction community, there is a common mantra: Ask, Believe, Achieve.
Believe it or not, I recently learned that the believing part of that mantra is talking about doing.
When you believe that you can achieve something, it means that you are taking the necessary steps to achieve that goal. It means that you are not afraid to try, fail, try again, and eventually achieve.
To me, the underlying notion of believing is consistency.
By showing up every day consistently to achieve your goals, you lay the foundation for your ultimate success because guess what? Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out – Robert Collier
2. Consistency will help you develop new habits
Dr. Joe Dispenza in his book: Breaking the habit of being yourself talks about neuropathways.
In the book, he says that when you do something for the first time, it might be hard because your brain is forging a neuro pathway for that action in your brain.
That is why the first time you drive a car, it’s hard. However, with more practice, in this instance, “Consistency” that neuro pathway will become clearer as the connections between the neurons get stronger.
Once the action turns into a habit, it becomes automatic; it becomes second nature to you.
So, imagine if you select great habits to cultivate, these habits will morph you into the person you aspire to become. No doubt!
Here are a couple of great habits to focus on:
- Reading at least one book a month
- Exercising at least three times a week
- Waking up at 5 am
- Meditating
3. Consistency will help you build momentum
Have you ever heard of the flow state? This is when you are in high gear and are hyper-focused on your goal.
As with everything in life, the start of achieving any goal; fitness, wealth, or a relationship goal is always hard.
However, when you begin and are consistent in showing up to achieve those goals, you start to gain momentum, and when that happens, there is no stopping you.
One of Newton’s laws of motion states: An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion at a constant speed and in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force.
If you stay on the course, you will fail along the way, but you will learn a lot, which will help you get better at whatever it is that you are doing and eventually succeed. Trust me!
So, stay in motion and keep the momentum going by being consistent.
4. Consistency will help you become disciplined
Consistency and discipline go hand in hand. When you show up every day to work even when you don’t feel like it, you are instilling in yourself a discipline that over time will help you achieve your goals.
It’s one thing to think and talk about your goals and it’s another to show up and do the actual work.
One of the greatest sayings I have ever come across is: One step in the right direction to achieving your goal is worth more than a hundred years spent thinking about it.
Consistency will help build your discipline and resilience muscles.
5. Consistency will help you build self-confidence
Whenever you make a move in the right direction, it’s like you are casting a vote for the person you want to become.
So, keep voting for the best version of yourself by showing up consistently in doing the things that matter.
This will skyrocket your self-confidence because you will know that you showed up each time, worked on your goals, and achieved them.
Conclusion
Simply put: Consistency is staying on course; it’s showing up even when we don’t feel like it.
No one is coming to save you. You need to act and stay consistent in making the right moves.
The compounding effect of consistency will be the best gift that you can give yourself.
Do you think you can do it? Will you be consistent in doing the things that matter?
Let me know.
